Principal Solution Architect, Data & AI

📍 Location: Aarhus

At Columbus, we are helping organizations build modern data platforms and unlock the value of their data through scalable analytics, AI, and cloud-native architectures. We are looking for a Principal Solution Architect who can take a leading role in designing and delivering complex data platforms for enterprise customers.

As a Principal Solution Architect in our Data & AI team, you are responsible for the end-to-end architecture and successful delivery of large-scale data and analytics solutions. You act as the technical authority on key engagements, translating business needs into robust, scalable, and future-proof architectures.

You will work closely with engineering teams, project managers, and client stakeholders to ensure solutions are designed and implemented according to best practices for modern cloud data platforms. While you lead the architectural direction, you are also comfortable getting hands-on when needed to unblock teams or shape critical components of the solution.

Your time is primarily focused on client-facing architecture and project delivery (approximately 70%), complemented by internal activities such as mentoring colleagues, strengthening architectural practices, and contributing to the continuous development of our Data & AI capabilities.

Role & responsibilities

As a Principal Solution Architect, you will:

  • Own end-to-end architecture of enterprise data platforms (from design to production)

  • Translate business needs into concrete, scalable, and opinionated architectures

  • Drive architecture decisions across the full data lifecycle (ingestion → transformation → storage → semantic layer → consumption)

  • Lead technical design sessions and architecture workshops with senior stakeholders

  • Ensure architectural integrity during delivery - not just in slides, but in code and implementation

  • Act as technical escalation point for complex challenges across projects

  • Contribute hands-on when needed (e.g., prototyping, critical pipelines, IaC)

  • Perform architecture reviews and design validations

  • Define and evolve architecture patterns, standards, and best practices

  • Mentor engineers and architects, raising the overall technical bar

What you will work with

Our projects typically involve designing and implementing modern data platforms using technologies such as:

  • Azure Data Platform (end-to-end)

  • Microsoft Fabric

  • Databricks & Delta Lake / Lakehouse architectures

  • Azure Data Factory / Synapse

  • Power BI semantic models (enterprise-grade)

  • Streaming & real-time architectures

  • Infrastructure-as-Code & DevOps practices

You will work on complex enterprise environments, helping organizations modernize legacy data platforms and establish scalable foundations for analytics and AI.

What you bring

We are looking for a profile that combines deep technical expertise with architectural leadership:

  • Extensive experience designing and implementing modern cloud data platforms

  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data engineering, and analytics platforms

  • Experience working with Azure-based data ecosystems

  • Ability to translate business requirements into practical and scalable technical architectures

  • Experience guiding development teams and ensuring delivery quality

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead technical discussions with senior stakeholders

  • You bring personality and presence into your work - you’re someone people enjoy collaborating with, even when solving hard problems
